Applied Creative Research (ICA)

This book is born from an observation: for some years now, processes of collaboration
have been appearing between research and artistic practices that aim to contribute to solve challenges of our
societies, in many fields (health -physical and mental-, migration, prison, business, education…). The
concept of applied creative research (ICA) gives an academic term to this reality and, at the same
time, opens a field of study that this book intends to initiate.
The 19 proposals gathered here, coming from 10 universities and 2 cultural structures from 5 countries,
reflect on this methodology of ICA, which requires a three-way dialogue between scientific reflection
, artistic practices and social challenges. Focused on a collaborative intersectorial work
that integrates intercultural and inter and transdisciplinary processes, the ICA generates many reflections that
have grouped in four axes:

-the defining aspects of ICA, from a genealogical perspective and in contrast with other
methodologies;
-the functioning and implications of the workshop as well as the role of the workshop leader;
-the question of ethics and the impact on the participating communities;
-the aesthetic dimension at stake.

Each part consists of long theoretical articles and short articles on ICA experiences.
